The Hope Dinner Was a Success!
First and foremost, SCI CAN would like to thank all of you that attended the Hope Dinner on October 19th. We had a great turnout with over 300 attendees and the night was filled with delicious food, great people, and powerful speakers. Special thanks to Luther College and Luther College Dining Services for helping us host the event. We are proud to say that we raised $28,000 and gave a total of $31,080 in grants to the Euro Team and Thunder Rode Therapeutic Riding. A big thank you to the Lynch Family Foundation (Gary Lynch, Jason & Erin Golly) for their $10,000 donation. And of course, thank you to all of you that donated, your generosity is making a difference. SCI CAN is so fortunate to have each and every one of you behind the growing of our foundation.
If you haven’t already heard, the big surprise of the night was when Aaron Heying proposed to his girlfriend (now fiance!), Maelyn Schwickerath. The room was full of tears and smiles when she accepted. SCI CAN wishes them the best on the start of their lives together. Be sure to check out the video above to see the proposal yourself…it even made it on the national TV show, Right This Minute!
If you didn’t get a chance to make it to this year’s event, no worries. Decorah will be hosting another Hope Dinner next fall. We hope to see you there.
A special thank you to the Lohse Foundation (Brian and Mary Lohse) for their very generous donation of $30,000. These funds will help us continue to further our mission and expand services available for people with spinal cord injuries and other neurological disorders in the Des Moines area.
